3 Tips to Start Caring for Your Mental Health Today
Hey there, and welcome to my blog!
I’m Dariana, an integrative mental health coach and creator of Reclaim & Become. This is a space built for people who want real, practical ways to improve their mental health without judgment and without a huge price tag.
My passion for this work comes from my own experience. When I desperately needed support, I struggled to find affordable, accessible care. That led me to become certified as an integrative mental health coach. My goal now is to reach as many people as possible who are dealing with unresolved childhood trauma, identity struggles, or simply want to feel more whole. If that resonates with you, you’re in the right place.
Today, let’s jump right in: 3 Tips to Start Caring for Your Mental Health Today.
Why Mental Health Deserves More Attention
We’re quick to take care of our physical health because we can see and feel it. We know when we’re tired, sick, or in pain. But mental health is just as important (arguably even more so), and it directly affects how our bodies function. A calmer, healthier mind supports a healthier body.
So, how do we start taking care of our mental health in practical ways? Below are three small but powerful steps you can try this week.
Tip 1: Practice Good Hygiene
Have you ever woken up feeling so drained that even brushing your teeth or running a comb through your hair felt like a chore? I’ve been there too. But I’ve learned that small hygiene rituals can be surprisingly powerful for your mood.
Think of hygiene as a form of self-respect. When you brush your teeth, take a quick shower, and put yourself together, you’re signaling to your brain, “I matter.” Over time, that signal lifts your confidence and helps your day feel lighter.
Tip 2: Make Time for a Hobby You Enjoy
Hobbies aren’t a luxury. They’re a form of mental maintenance. Doing something you genuinely enjoy creates a sense of anticipation and release which are two things your nervous system loves. Whether it’s painting, baking, running, or journaling, a hobby lets you step away from daily stress and reconnect with yourself. Bonus points if you share it with a friend or family member.
Tip 3: Connect with a Friend
We were designed for connection. Yet in our busy lives, we often confuse “being around people” with “true connection.” Making time to talk, laugh, or share something personal with a friend can dramatically improve your mental health.
If you don’t have someone close right now, that’s okay. Even chatting with someone at a community event, volunteering, or attending a group activity can lift your mood and remind you that you’re not alone.
Start Small, But Start Today
These tips are intentionally simple. You don’t need to overhaul your life to start caring for your mental health. You just need one small, consistent step.
